Hi everyone, my name is Colleen Fisher and I am 15 years old. My goal is to raise the most amount of money that I can to help the ‘shave for a cure’ foundation. The main reason for my goal is because I want to help the cancer patients get through the tough times of their disease. Over the past 5 years, I have been raising money for many different events and charities such as the ‘40 Hour Famine’, ‘Shoebox Appeal’ and the schools ‘walk-a-thon’ and ‘Spell-A-Thon’.

At the age of 11, I was part of the Spell-a-thon to raise money for my school and in total raised $285. By the final date, after continuous door-knocking, I had raised the most amount of money. Not only in my year level, but my whole school.

A year after, I did the 40 Hour Famine and raised a small sum of money to work and play without furniture. In the same year, I also raised money for a walk-a-thon with a sum of approximately $300. To finish that year off I participated in the shoebox appeal, making sure that the box was really full so that whoever was given my box had an amazing Christmas.

The latest charity event I have participated in was the 40 hour famine again in 2010. My friend and I decided not to eat for the 40 hours and together we raised $450, the highest amount of money I have ever raised.

I quite enjoyed the different challenges that these events have presented to me such as not eating for 40 hours or not using furniture and door-to-door knocking which helped raise my confidence and self-esteem.I am very dedicated to raising money for charities because when my family was going through tough times, they helped us preserve our dignity and self-esteem by providing us with our necessities. Whenever we have needed a helping hand, there has always been someone who will help us willingly with no attachments and it’s a huge inspiration to me. So please support me in trying to help the people who need it most by sponsoring me to shave my head, all funds raised will go to the Leukaemia foundation and in particular the shave for a cure event.
